The Aquinnah fire department has a new tool to respond to water emergencies thanks to a donation from Ernie Boch Jr.

Mr. Boch, a seasonal resident and president and chief executive officer of Subaru of New England, donated $8,300 to the Aquinnah Fire Department to fund the purchase of a personal water craft.

The water craft will allow for quicker response and effective rescue during water emergencies in Aquinnah and other Island towns.

“This personal water craft has the ability to quickly be launched from the beach, saving valuable time; every second counts in an emergency,” Aquinnah fire chief Simon Bollin said in a press release.
