Someone turned up the heat again. The humidity has been on and off but the heat has been definitely on. I am still wishing for rain. It can rain at night just as long as it rain. Of course with all this begging I don’t know if the faucet would come on and then not shut off, or we would get more than our share of white stuff. Oops, I didn’t say that did I?

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Conor Graves who celebrated August 29, Lyle Lemieux and Ruby Mercier on August 30, and to Leiliane Dias who celebrated August 31.

I can’t finish the birthdays because I need the new school year list. This will happen next week which doesn’t seem possible. The summer has gone by and we are facing a lot of changes, be it kids going to school, fewer people and less traffic, but the changes are there and there are many happy parents.

The National Touring Comedians embark on a road trip from New York city to Anchorage, Alaska to perform in all points in between, including the Vineyard. Dan Frigolette (Boardwalk Empire, Totally Biased, Artie Lange Show) Matt Richards (MTV’s Joking Off) and a few special guests in each city are Comedy’s Best Kept Secret — amazingly talented comedians who haven’t made it into the limelight, at least not yet. Comedy’s Best Kept Secret is raising money for the Liberty Humane Society. They will be at the Harbor View Hotel on Sept. 5 and Oct. 9. Tickets are $15 and on sale at the Harbor View Hotel.

The Friends of the Edgartown Library is sponsoring the third annual Pennywise Path 5K walk/run on Labor Day, which is Monday. The route winds through the woods along Pennywise Path connecting to the bike path for the final mile back to the Edgartown School. Participants will be carried to the starting area by bus. Information and registration are available at edgartownlibrary.org and at the library. Proceeds help support the programs of the Edgartown Library.

I wish you all a happy Labor Day. If you are traveling home off-Island, I wish you a safe travels. Please be mindful next week that the kids will be either walking or riding their bikes to school. Also, there will be children at the bus stops and buses will be making numerous stops along the way. So please drive carefully.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
