Nothing was nicer or more thoughtful than having Teri Praskach pack up some of her favorite herbs, flowers and tomatoes, all grown by her, of course, and take the boat to the bus to White Plains to bring these treats to Nonna who is back in White Plains hospital. While the food service there is very good, there is nothing like an Island tomato when you are feeling poorly.

While it has been a bit difficult to keep up with the Island while I am concentrated here, what follows is the latest I have for you.

I just had a quick glimpse of the festivities at Sailing Camp Park last weekend when Chyenne Cimeno married Ken Ward, a love affair long in the making. When I can speak to the bride herself I will get you more details, but the dancing, the dresses, the cake, the camaraderie, it all looked like terrific fun. The weather cooperated beautifully. Their baby, Emmalee, was part of the processional. Two sisters, Ashley and Amber, looked quite fetching in lavender. May they live happily ever after.

You are all invited to an important event next Monday, Sept. 28, at the Tisbury Council on Aging on Pine street. There will be a health fair from 4 to 6 p.m., perfect for people who must attend after work. Among the services you can have Lesley Segal check your hearing. Call 508-696-4205 for an appointment with Lesley. David Finkelstein will check your eyes and test for glaucoma. Michelle McCrumb handles podiatry and she will be happy to check the all-important feet. The fair is free and open to all ages. There will be refreshments and giveaways. Don’t miss it.

From the Poets’ Corner, Arnie Reisman will read a wide range of topics of his poetry on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m. in the program room of the Vineyard Haven Public Library. Copies of his book Clara Bow Died for Our Sins will be available for signing and purchase. All are invited to the reading. There will be a question and answer session after.

Also for our poets and many, many friends, Carole Vandal has been asked by Kevin Marks, brother of William Waterway, to announce the details of William’s memorial service. It will be held on Sunday, Oct. 18 at 1 p.m. at the Agricultural Hall in West Tisbury. I certainly hope I will be back on-Island for the service.

Get well wishes go out to Tony Ciaramella, Barbara Pope Peckham, Paul Petrone and Iole Gardella.

The birthday bandwagon pulls along twins Pedro Carvalho and Penha Prata Friday. They share their birthday with Monique Rodrigues, Daniel Gardella, Lindsey Gonsalves, Chris Chappell, John James Chadwick and Elio Benevento. Sept. 28 is a party for Pat Gardella and Marguerite Shreve. Sept. 29 is claimed by Karen George. Sept. 30 is shared by Gay Smith and Walter Burke. And on Oct. 1, Alan Peterson, Allie Clark and Alyssa Mayrand take the cake. Many happy returns.
