The Living Local Harvest Festival takes place Saturday, Oct. 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Agricultural Hall in West Tisbury. Then, after just a short break, it transforms into a community potluck from 5 to 9 p.m. But in a sense, the whole day is a community potluck, featuring all things local, communal, seasonal and tasty.

The event actually kicks off on Friday night at the Martha’s Vineyard Film Center with a screening of the Sustainable Vineyard series by local filmmakers Liz Witham and Ken Wentworth. Doors open at 7 p.m., screening starts at 7:30 p.m. and a reception is from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Then on Saturday there will be exhibits and workshops all day long on sustainable food, clean energy, conservation, tiny houses — if it’s good for the environment, it will be there. Kids’ activities will rule too, from face painting and pumpkin carving to getting up close and personal with local reptiles and amphibians.

The crew from the Wild Food Challenge (taking place Sunday, Oct. 11 at the P.A. Club in Oak Bluffs) will also be on hand to give a teaser of what’s to come. And don’t forget the antique power show.

Throughout the day, classes and workshops on seeds will be conducted in the seed tent, of course. Food will be everywhere, provided by Morning Glory Farm, Chef Deon’s Kitchen, Chilmark Coffee, Loco Taco, Not Your Sugar Mamas, Pie Chicks and The Kitchen Porch.

The local music scene will also be out in force. The schedule is: Sara Piazza, 10:15 a.m. to 11 a.m.; Jellybone Rivers, 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.; Jemima James, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.; The PickPocket Bluegrass Band, 1:45 to 2:45 p.m.; Charlotte Benjamin, 3 to 4 p.m.

The community supper from 5 to 9 p.m. will be hosted by the Scottish Bakehouse, featuring Island-raised pork, local farm veggies and ancient grains by Anson Mills. The cost per person is $15. The Flying Elbows will get the crowd moving for the contra dance.

During the event, parking will cost $5 (daytime) to benefit the Tisbury School Wellness Program.

Whew, and you thought the pace was slowing down now that summer is over.
