The cat room still has only one resident. Miss Kitty is approximately one year old. She is a black and gray tabby who is very affectionate and loves to play. Come by and meet her to find out if she could be your perfect companion. One of her favorite things is hanging out on someone’s lap in the rocking chair and being pet.

Miss Kitty needs a home. — Alison L. Mead

Zoomie and her beautiful kittens, Racer and Speedy, are all doing well. The kittens are growing rapidly. Racer is the big girl and Speedy the little boy. Once the kittens are weaned Zoomie will be spayed and go home to her family.

Orange feline senior citizen Milo is enjoying life and hopes that a special angel might find it in his or her heart to adopt him. The adoption fee will be waived for this lovely gentleman.

The shelter has just received a gift of a painting of Sid Gordon and his dog Rex by Annie Broome. Sid was a character and a half, and Rex had a cage dedicated in his honor at the old shelter. Stop by to check it out and while here you can pay a visit to the cat room. The painting is right outside the door.

Our board of directors would like to extend thanks to all our volunteers, both young and old, for their time and dedication.

We would also like to remind everyone to join us for the Walk for the Animals on Saturday, Oct. 17 (rain date Sunday, Oct. 18). The walk begins at the West Tisbury School from 10 a.m. to noon with registration open from 9:30 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. The suggested donation is $10. You may also pre-register; registration forms can be obtained during regular shelter hours or online at animalshelterofmv.org. Participants will receive a doggy bandana and other goodies. Please remember that dogs must be leashed and current on all vaccinations. And a big thank you to the students of the West Tisbury School for the beautiful posters they created for the event.

Lisa, Gordon and all the shelter volunteers would like to extend their condolences to the family and friends of Cynthia Walsh, who passed away last weekend. Cynthia was a longtime supporter and volunteer, as well as the former author of this column. She will be missed by all.
