At Martha’s Vineyard Tattoo in the Edgartown Triangle, owner and artist Mark Fuentes safely locked away his ink and needles Friday night to make way for a more social atmosphere. As deejay Wep spun tracks from the rear of the funky shop with black and white-checked floors, four vendors selling jewelry, prints and plants set up for a two-night pop-up shop that runs through Saturday.

“I appreciate people making stuff by hand in a time when things are often made in China,” said Mr. Fuentes. “It’s nice to offer things on the Island that were made with care.”

The tattoo artist moved into the space two years ago and wanted to use it in a way that celebrates artisans while also including a social element. He turned to friend and part-time employee Jess Phaneuf who likes to organize events. She coordinated with artists to create a pop-up shop a year ago. The shop has hosted about 10 pop-ups in the past year, primarily off season.

Pop-ups are gaining popularity around the Island.

“It’s just to get people who make beautiful things to get together,” said Ms. Phaneuf. “Keep the space special and fresh; friends coming to check out friends arts.”

On Friday, Phoenix Russell displayed her Wampum jewelry. Usually she sells at markets and from the trunk of her car.

Walker Roman manned a table displaying his abstract landscape paintings and his fiance Danielle Mulcahy’s Barnyard Saints prints and scarves. Mr. Roman and Ms. Mulcahy sell at the artisans’ fair in the summer, which is where they heard about the pop-up shops from Ms. Phaneuf.

“Immediately we were like, yes, no brainer, of course,” Mr. Roman said.

Rebeccah Clark was selling her leather goods, including bracelets, earrings and coin purses.

Susie Nedley, who works as a gardener, was selling succulents potted in mid-century planters. Porcelain pieces on her table included a jolly little Santa and pink elephant, green plants sprouting from its back.

Saturday night’s shop will include Ms. Nedley, Randi Sylvia of Kenworthy Clothing, jeweler Rachel Lucier and Jessica Kramer of Hawkhouse jewelry. The shop opens at 6 p.m.
