Walter J. Burke of the Good Shepherd Parish in Vineyard Haven is one of 81 laypersons in the Fall River Diocese to receive the annual Marian Award.

The award recognizes members of diocesan parishes for dedicated service to the Roman Catholic Church. The recipients are nominated for the award by their pastors.

The sterling silver medals will be presented on Sunday, Dec. 13 in the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption in Fall River.
