An Onset man is facing charges including heroin distribution after being arrested Friday afternoon in Vineyard Haven by the Martha’s Vineyard Drug Task Force.

According to a press release by the Oak Bluffs police department, Eric Bills, 38, was arrested after drug task force members executed a search warrant in the Cook Road area of Vineyard Haven. Police said Mr. Bills was allegedly observed attempting to meet with a known heroin user; when the transaction was interrupted by officers, police said. Mr. Bills allegedly dropped two bags containing a substance believed to be heroin.

Police said the arrest was the result of a month-long narcotics investigation by the drug task force.

Mr. Bills is facing charges of possessing with intent to distribute a class A substance (heroin) and conspiracy to violate drug laws, according to police.
