On Saturday, Feb. 13, the 19th annual Martha’s Vineyard 20-Miler and Amity Island Relay will take place beginning at 11 a.m. It’s a race for diehard runners. After all, a 20-mile road race in New England in February isn’t for the weak of heart.
The race begins at the Steamship Authority in Vineyard Haven and travels much of the Island. Those not wanting to go for the full 20 miles can grab a partner and cut the job in half.
Laura King Edwards will be traveling up from Charlotte, N.C. this year for the run as part of a quest to race in all 50 states to honor her younger sister Taylor, who lost her vision to a rare condition called Batten disease. Massachusetts will be her 11th state.
Ms. Edwards co-founded Taylor’s Tale, a non-profit organization which provides funds for research on Batten disease and other rare diseases.
