The weather has been like the song says, “We’ve had it all just like Bogie and Bacall.” We have had snow, wind, rain, temperatures below freezing — and I mean below — and now it is 50 degrees, the six inches of snow is gone from my front yard, wind is blowing up to 40 miles per hour and the boats are cancelled. I can’t wait to see what next week brings.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Phillip Oliveira, who celebrated Feb. 13; Nathan Cuthbert and Devin Hill on Feb. 15; Laila Branca and Jackson Pachico on Feb. 16; Kaitlyn Freeman and Ana Kurelja on Feb. 18; and to Olivia Coyle who celebrates her day today, Feb. 19.

I was talking to my friend and told her that I had to write my article but was having a hard time trying to figure out what I was going to write. She asked me why I didn’t go out to see what was going on and I responded I would but nobody was out because of the weather, so there was no one to talk to. Either that or everyone has gone south.

Last week I neglected to report that Jonathan Polleys, Tina and Audrey took a road trip to Florida to visit Mickey. They drove to Jacksonville to visit Jonathan’s brother Bob and his wife Lorraine for a couple of days then on to Disney where they spent a great week taking in everything. They had a great time and were tired when they got home but the whole trip was very worth it.

February vacation is coming up. For those who still have to work and need to have their kids do something, Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary has programs from Feb. 23 to Feb. 25. Sign up today for your kids to discover in fun fashion how Island animals survive the season. The cost is $60 per day for members, and $75 per day for nonmembers. Spaces fill up quickly. Registration can be completed online or by calling 508-627-4850.

Remember our feathered friends. I have had so much fun watching them feeding. Even when snow piled up on the feeders, the squirrels paid for stealing food by shoveling out the feeder so the birds could get at it too.

School vacation is next week; be extra careful when you drive because children may be out and about.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
