Sonika Vaid, a 20-year-old singer and Vineyard summer resident, continues to advance through the rounds in the final season of American Idol.

On Thursday, Ms. Vaid, a student, was named one of the 10 finalists in the last season of the reality singing competition. She went on to perform Bring me to Life by Evanescence, earning praise from the judges.

“Baby you’re dangerous, because you have such an amazing voice” judge Jennifer Lopez said. “If you wake up in this competition we have a real competition this year.”

Ms. Vaid graduated from Weston High School. The show identifies her as a Vineyard resident.

The finalists will be pared down to eight this week, as determined by votes from television viewers. Voting has closed.

The show airs Thursday at 8 p.m. on Fox.
