A Falmouth Academy student from Edgartown who received top honors at the school’s 28th annual science fair in February went on to earn a first place award at the South Shore Regional Science Fair on March 12 at Bridgewater State University.

Sophomore Charles Fenske was awarded first place and the Sea Education Association scholarship at the regional fair for his project titled “Analysis of Rocket Guidance Systems in a Wind Tunnel to Enhance Space Flight Maneuverability and Efficiency.”

Another Falmouth Academy student from Martha’s Vineyard, sophomore Kiric Hallahan of Oak Bluffs, won a third place cash award at the regional fair for his project “Signature Whistle Rate Comparison between Dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) Alone or in Groups.”

The Massachusetts State Science and Engineering Fair, founded in 1949 by the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a group of science educators, sponsors six regional fairs and a statewide fair each year.

Fifteen Falmouth Academy students participated in the regional fair, and 13 of them won awards. The two Martha’s Vineyard students and their classmates now go on to the statewide fair on May 6 and 7 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge.
