The first snow of spring fell on Sunday evening and into Monday morning. Instead of the six to eight inches predicted, it was more like six-eighths of an inch dusting. A bit different having snowflakes surrounding the daffodils and crocus. Springtime in Aquinnah shows that a great deal of the piping used for the dredging project has been loaded on a flat bed and removed for the summer season. However, there is still some piping underwater creating a shoal amid the flats.
Community Baptist Church of Gay Head will have Good Friday services this evening at 7 p.m. with worship by Rev, Ellen Tatreau. Easter Sunday services will be held at 7 a.m. with Reverend Tatreau.
On Tuesday, March 29 at the Aquinnah Public Library, Good Dinosaur will be shown. Dinner will be served including pizza, juice, and veggies.,
Chilmark Chocolates will be open until Saturday March 26 and then will close until the end of April. Stop in for those chocolate Easter Bunnies.
Wayward Wampum has extended hours with the springtime weather, or perhaps significant lack thereof.

Sharon Amaral, daughter of Steve Amaral and Judith Prada Counsell, has been undergoing medical treatment recently. Her friends are gathering at the Portuguese American Club on Vineyard avenue in Oak Bluffs on March 31 to host a spaghetti dinner for Sharon’s benefit. There will be a silent auction as well. John and Kathy Born are celebrating their 50th anniversary. All four of their children and the four spouses as well as nine grandchildren will converge on New York city to celebrate this big milestone in the place where they were married 50 years ago. This momentous event includes their Aquinnah neighbors Matt and Jenny Born and their four kids who are coming all the way from London.
Carl Crocker and Susie Crowell returned this week after spending a few days in Puerto Rico and a stopover in Tampa, Fla. to visit with his father Kimball Crocker. Rumor has it they had a wonderful time.
Barbara Perry Francis was pleasantly surprised at the celebration of her 90th birthday held in the upstairs dining room at the Barn in Oak Bluffs. She was surrounded by her family and friends for the event, with family arriving from across the Northeast.
Welcome to Iona Winter Kelley, who was born on March 9 at 1:02 a.m. in Chicago, Ill., measuring 17 inches and weighing 6 pounds 7 ounces. Iona is the first child of Chelsea Ives Kelley of Aquinnah and Sean Kelley, formerly of Newburyport. Grandparents are Peter and Clare Ives and Michael and Paula Kelley. Little Iona is the niece of Shelby Ives and Taylor and Sarah Ives. All are beyond thrilled with their first grandchild/niece. Clare is presently in Chicago meeting her bundle of joy.
Rodeo Purves Langer celebrated his recent birthday with eight of his friends at a party at their home. They were going to have a sleepover but due to illness it was simply a party where everyone went home following the celebration.
Joan Lelacheur is having the first open studio of spring. All are welcome to see her new wampum designs on Saturday, March 26 at 10 a.m. at 42 Old South Road in Aquinnah. Susan Shea will have her beautiful art cards available as well.
Sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Mary Bernard Marshall, who passed away on March 16 at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital, where she had worked for 40 years. Mary always had a smile and a good word for everyone.
