There is still a slight chill in the air but the temperature has reached the 50s and 60s during the day. The pinkletinks have announced their arrival and have been in full chorus along Lighthouse Road since March 24. Herring are running at the herring creek to spawn in Squibnocket Pond. Spring is in the air and many families spent the Easter weekend at their seasonal homes.

Thank you to Aquinnah Public Library staff Rosa Parker, Angela Waldron, and Jennifer Burkin for hosting such a great egg hunt on Saturday. The library was filled with the children counting their candy and eggs. A grand time was had by all. On Saturday, April 2 there will be story time at 10:30 a.m. and from 11 to 3 p.m. will be kids craft time making pasta sunflowers.

Thank you to Garret Brown for his efficiency and professionalism in assisting me while at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital two weeks ago.

John and Amy Macey and their son Zach were at their Aquinnah home for the weekend. On Saturday, they bowled with Paul, Theresa, and Noah Manning. In the evening they attended the Chilmark School fundraiser at the Chilmark Community Center, placing their bids on several auction items, while Zach, Noah and yours truly enjoyed In The Heart of the Sea. We look forward to their next visit.

Paul Henry Jeffers-Mayhew was home for the weekend, spending time with his siblings Emma and Peyton. Congratulations to Paul Henry in achieving a spot on the dean’s list at U Mass Boston where he is completing his freshman year.

Alyssa Mayrand arrived home on Saturday after an extended visit to New Zealand over the winter.

Get well wishes to Kristie Mayhew who was admitted to Massachusetts General Hospital this week.

Doug Plummer, his wife Cathleen and their son Marshall were at their Aquinnah home over the weekend, with Marshall really enjoying himself at the library.

Get well wishes to Alexandra Taylor who underwent surgery at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital this past week. One of those hazards of jogging.

Condolences to my friend Diana (Dilly) Douglas DeBlase and her family and friends in the loss of her father David O. Douglas on March 18. He will be missed for all of his great work up-Island and beyond. Services will be held when the corn is “up to your ankles.”

Condolences to the family and friends of Estey Look Teller, who passed away at her Edgartown home on March 22. Estey always had words of wisdom for everyone listening, whether it be about fishing or Vineyard history, she would share her knowledge. She will be greatly missed.

Happy birthday wishes this week to Audrey Jeffers-Mayhew on April 2, who shares the day with Levi Vanderhoop. Amy Vanderhoop will celebrate a major milestone on April 2. April 4 will be a day of celebration for Rose Styron, Chris Murphy, Bonnie Chalifoux, Amira Madison, Gary Paraboschi, Shelby Ives, Isolette Fernandes and Donna Marie Rose Klier. Nadaizja Aiguier-Bolling will party on April 6. Jennie Greene, Dona Mazza and Taza Vercruysse all party on April 7. Megan Alley, Jim Hickey, Laurie Campos, and Cynthia Low share the day on April 8.
