Kathi Hackett, the coordinator for Martha’s Vineyard Community Services’s Disability Services Support Center, received a state award last week for the work with helping individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Ms. Hackett was given a Support Families Through Family Support award during an awards at the State House on March 23. The awards is bestowed by the state Department of Developmental Services and the Statewide Advisory Council.

“Kathi has been the primary provider of family support services for the islands of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket for many years. She has worked hard, and single-handedly, to establish trusting relationships with the individuals and the families we support and has become a trusted and accessible resource to them,” Department of Developmental Services area director Richard Cavicchi said in a press release. “Kathi considers her role with these families as a privilege, which speaks to her commitment and the high value she places on supporting families. She is truly one of the Cape and Islands treasured assets.”

Community Services’ disability services program works to promote the integration and independence of Vineyard residents with disabilities, offering programs including the Daybreak Clubhouse, Family Support Center, and Island Employment Services. Visit mvcommunityservices.com for more information.
