Students from the regional high school’s MVironment Club headed to Thimble Farm last weekend to host an engineering workshop for middle school students.
The high school students ran the workshop with support from high school teachers and club advisors Natalie Munn and Anna Cotton and Keith Wilda of Thimble Farm.
High school student Casey McAndrews, who is working on hydroponic systems as part of her senior project, led the session, which included a tour of Thimble Farm. Students then worked on their own hydroponics systems to take back to their schools.
The MVironment group has also held workshops for third and fourth graders in Chilmark, Edgartown, Oak Bluffs and West Tisbury, in which they built small-scale hydroponics systems with LED grow lights. Last weekend’s event was the last workshop for this year.
