The Martha’s Vineyard Masters Swim Team took second place in the small team division at the New England Short Course Championships held March 12 and March 18 through 20 at Harvard University.

The Vineyard Masters team, which is affiliated with the YMCA, scored 615 team points, beating last year’s total of 529.

The four-day event included almost 900 participants. Six swimmers, Rainy Goodale, Leslie Craven, Jennifer Passafiume, Elizabeth Goodell, Jonathan Chatinover and Jason Snow represented the Vineyard Masters team.

Goodale, the team coach, won eight of the 12 events she entered, setting two New England records in the process. She holds seven New England records.

Chatinover won the 400 yard individual medley, and Snow, Craven, Goodale and Chatinover combined to win the 400 yard mixed medley relay and the 400 mixed yard freestyle relay for ages 45 and older.

Competing separately as the Phoenix Group, Eric Turner took 18th and Todd McGee placed 20th in the 50 free. The Phoenix group is coached by Les Cutler.
