The shelter has two lovely female cats waiting for their forever homes. Both couldn’t be more affectionate and are quite beautiful. Lola is a purebred Russian blue with the softest fur you’ve ever felt. She is pearl gray with light green eyes, is quite playful, and is only seven years old. You couldn’t ask for a nicer cat. Maryanne is a 12 years young tuxedo, and is possibly the most affectionate cat to ever reside here. If you are looking for a cat you couldn’t go wrong with either of these girls.

Is there a farm out there looking for an indoor/outdoor cat that is a good hunter? Five-year-old tuxedo Lyle could be your perfect fit. He is a handsome boy who is affectionate and playful as well.

Nine-month-old black stray kitten Eloise from Franklin Street in Vineyard Haven is shaking things up in the cat room with her playful antics. She would love to find a family to play with her.

Max, the 15-month-old Labrador retriever/hound mix is still looking for a home. He is well trained, affectionate and good with other dogs and cats, but fearful of young children. He is staying with his family until a new home can be found so please contact the shelter if you would like to meet this sweet boy.

We’d like to remind everyone that all pets need to be vaccinated against rabies. Rabies clinics will be taking place around the Island on April 2 at the shelter here in Edgartown at 1 Pennywise Path from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and also at the West Tisbury Fire Station at 452 State Road from 10 a.m. until noon. The cost is $20 per pet.

The shelter has had its first heartworm positive dog. He has been adopted and is receiving treatment. Now that heartworm is becoming more and more prevalent on the Island please make sure to have your dogs tested annually and give them a heartworm preventative monthly.

Shelter hours are Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday and Monday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.
