Rep. Timothy Madden, who represents Martha’s Vineyard in the Massachusetts legislature, will be the featured guest for this week’s Tuesdays in the Newsroom event held at the Gazette office on April 5.

The Nantucket Democrat recently announced he will not seek re-election to the seat he has held since 2008, citing the strains of travel.

Mr. Madden, whose district also includes Nantucket, parts of Falmouth and the Elizabeth Islands, served as a legislative liaison in the State House for 10 years before his election in a three-way race to the seat long held by Rep. Eric Turkington.

Tuesdays in the Newsroom is a monthly speaker series in which community members are invitedinto the Gazette newsroom to participate in an intimate interview with newsmakers. Recent guests have included acclaimed documentary filmmaker Stanley Nelson and Walter “Robby” Robinson, the former head of the Boston Globe’s Spotlight team featured in the Oscar-winning movie of the same name.

Doors open at 5:15 p.m. with a wine and cheese reception, followed by an interview with Rep. Madden. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions before the program ends by 7 p.m. Tickets are $10, and advance reservations are required. To reserve a seat, visit madden.bpt.me.
