A 17-year-old was air lifted by the Coast Guard to a Boston-area hospital Monday night with serious injuries after a single car crash in Oak Bluffs, according to police.

State police trooper David Parent told the Gazette Tuesday the young woman, whose name has not been released, was driving a 2006 Honda Civic south on Sea View avenue near Farm Pond when the car crashed head-on into the seawall. The driver was alone in the car and sustained head trauma, Trooper Parent said. She was taken to the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital.

With MedFlight grounded because of weather conditions, Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod crews medevaced the teen to Tufts Medical Center in an MH-60 Jayhawk, the Coast Guard said.

Trooper Parent said there were no skid marks or signs of braking at the scene. The driver was unable to answer questions because she is intubated, he said, and there were no witnesses.

“I would say that speed was a factor,” he said, adding that police do not believe alcohol was involved.
