On April 9 from 1 to 3 p.m. it’s time to get Scottish at the new Edgartown Library for the Scottish Society of Martha's Vineyard's annual Tartan Day celebration. Enjoy music, bagpipes, crafts for kids, and the society’s fourth annual shortbread contest.

Plus tartans, naturally, including the Martha's Vineyard tartan: blue for the sea, white for the surf, green for the islands and black for all Vineayrd men and women lost at sea. The tartan was designed and introduced by Philip D. Smith Jr. in 2011.

Tartan Day is an annual celebration of Scottish heritage that marks the Declaration of Arbroath, the declaration of Scottish independence, which was made in 1320.
