Polls will be open in three Vineyard towns Thursday for annual town elections. There are few contested elections.
Oak Bluffs voters will decide races for cemetery commissioner, planning board and school committee. Christopher Gibson is challenging Linda M. Wilson for her seat on the cemetery commission. Erik R. Albert, Abraham L. Seiman and William B. Vrooman are all vying for a five-year seat on the town planning board, with Mr. Alpert running as the incumbent. Mr. Seiman is also challenging incumbent school committee member Lisa Anne Reagan for her seat. Gail Barmakian is running unopposed for a third term on the five-member board of selectmen.
Voting will take place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the lower level meeting room in the Oak Bluffs library.
In Edgartown the lone race is for the board of library trustees, with Olga M. Church, Stephen W. Miller and Justine Shemeth DeOliveira running for two seats on the board. Michael Donaroma is seeking a fifth term as a town selectman with no opponent.
There are three questions on the ballot. Voters will be asked whether to approve $260,000 in real estate and personal property taxes to purchase an ambulance, $350,000 to rebuild and resurface town streets, and $210,000 to construct a bike path on Meetinghouse Way. All three spending items were approved at town meeting Tuesday.
Polls are open at the Edgartown town hall meeting room from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
In West Tisbury, a single question appears on the ballot to exempt spending for a new highway barn from the provisions of Proposition 2 1/2. Voters approved the $857,000 expenditure at the town meeting Tuesday night. Incumbent selectman Cynthia Mitchell is running unopposed for a third term. There are no contests on the ballot.
Polls are open at the West Tisbury public safety building from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
