Sunday is the first of May, when baskets may be hung on your door and May pole celebrations and dances announce the arrival of warmer weather and send old Jack Frost on vacation. Cinco de Mayo is celebrated on Thursday. Buds are appearing on trees, forsythia is in bloom and daffodils are everywhere.

Anna Alley, of State Road, returned home Sunday evening after visiting grandsons Robbie and Henry and twins Edward and Mark. As usual she took the older grandsons on adventurous trip and played games with them.

This is a busy week for Phyllis Meras. In addition to hosting Sal Laterra, who celebrates his 90th birthday on Wednesday, Saturday Phyllis, Trudy Richards Russell, class of ‘56, and Mary Ann Kane Snider will be the hosting members of the Wellesley class of 1953 at a mini-reunion. Those attending are: Jean Ames Sturgis from Fairfield, Conn., Harriet Sagoff Samors from Providence, R.I., Barbara Payne Rockett, M.D. of Brookline, Dorothy Lewis Goldberg from Newton Center, Norma Shoolman Arnow of Cambridge and Jane Van Zandt Dingman from Eastham .

Work is progressing nearly every day on the old Whiting homestead, known as the Parsonage Farmhouse. Cement walls for a full basement have been poured and new sills are being installed. Soon the construction workers will begin to lower the house that has been elevated for more than a month.

Angie Grant, transit authority administrator, reports that the VTA bus schedule will be gradually changing to the summer shoulder season beginning Saturday morning. At this time, it will offer extended service on Fridays and Saturdays until Memorial Day weekend, when this will include Sundays. The passenger count increased in the last three months of the winter schedule. New schedules are available and contain a wide range of regional transit information and a system map; they are available at most businesses in town.

Amy Hoff, over at the library, reports that Saturday at 3:30 p.m. the library will present a free classical recital, Getting Acquainted with The Dolce Duo. The Dolce Duo consists of strings musician César Atzíc Márquez and pianist Adele Dreyer. Their recital will highlight works by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Dvorâk and Debussy.

Signe Benjamin at the Vineyard Conservation Society reports that their annual beach clean-up is Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon.
