The temperature has dipped to the 30s during the nights this week after enjoying several days in the 60s. The pinkletinks are still in full chorus each night. The skunk cabbage is in abundance along the roadsides. Lawns are really green and even a few dandelions are in bloom. Morning Glory Farm opens Friday!

The annual May Day celebration will held at the Chilmark School Friday morning at 9 a.m. as the children dance around the May pole.

This week at the Aquinnah Public Library: Thursday afternoon there will be story time at 3:30 p.m.,and the after-school group meets at 4 p.m. Saturday morning story time is at 10:30 a.m. and from 11 to 3 p.m. there will be a kids craft time to make paper plate ducks.

On April 30 from 10 to noon, the annual VCS beach clean up will occur at 25 Vineyard beaches. Coordinators will be on hand to offer bags and gloves. There will be a party afterwards at the Harbor View Hotel in Edgartown.

Martha’s Vineyard Museum will have a reception on Wednesday, May 4 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the museum galleries for The Art of Windemere exhibit. For the past 12 years, museum docent Nancy Cabot has generously offered her services to teach painting to Windemere residents. Her 12-year-old granddaughter Violet Cabot has accompanied her to the painting sessions for the past five years. The reception is free and open to all. Enjoy the seasons through their art work.

Reminder: The League of Women Voters is sponsoring a candidate forum on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Aquinnah town hall.

Tisbury Senior Center director Joyce Stiles-Tucker invites one and all to the 25th anniversary open house celebration for the senior center on May 8 from 2 to 4 p.m. The center, which graciously houses the Martha’s Vineyard Center for Living two days a week as well as a multitude of meetings to accommodate many from across the Vineyard, is located at 34 Pine Tree Road in Vineyard Haven. Music will be performed by Michael Haydn.

Congratulations to Fynn Monahan, Menasha Leport, and Bella Thorpe, who have been recommended, applied, and accepted to the summer Advanced Studies Leadership Program at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy.

May 3 is a day of celebration for Av Morrow, Betsy Feil Vanlandingham, Amy Vanderhoop, and Jack Runyan, who will be five years old. Kaya Rutkowski will be six years old on May 4. Karen Barker Duffy will observe her special day on May 5. Alexandra Taylor will celebrate on May 6.
