Macey Dunbar and Gary Haley will vie for a three-year term as selectman in the Aquinnah annual town election May 11.
Ms. Dunbar founded the Headers of the Light in Aquinnah this year in the hope of becoming steward of the Gay Head Light. The group was narrowly outscored by the Martha’s Vineyard Museum in a bidding process that came to a head in April.
Mr. Haley, a master electrician, serves on the town lighthouse advisory board, which formed last year after the Gay Head Light was rescued from an eroding cliff. Among other things, the board is overseeing a long-term restoration of the lighthouse, and coordinated the recent bidding process.
This will be each candidate’s first run for elected office in Aquinnah.
The Martha’s Vineyard chapter of the League of Women Voters will host a public forum for the candidates May 4 at the Aquinnah Old Town Hall.
Selectman Spencer Booker, who served three terms on the board beginning in 2007, is not seeking reelection.
