The ferry Martha’s Vineyard began running again Saturday evening after being out of service most of the day Friday and Saturday for emergency repairs.

The Steamship Authority said Saturday night that repairs were completed and the Martha's Vineyard would resume service with the 7:30 p.m. trip from Woods Hole to Vineyard Haven.

A problem with one of two generators on the ferry was the cause of the repairs, general manager Wayne Lamson said by telephone Friday. Meanwhile, the Island Home, Nantucket and Sankaty were all running on the Vineyard route.

The freight vessel Sankaty replaced the Martha’s Vineyard for the 9:45 p.m. Woods Hole to Martha’s Vineyard trip and for scheduled trips between the Vineyard and Woods Hole on Saturday. Standby lines reopened Friday after being closed for several hours.

Trip cancellations began early Friday afternoon. There was limited passenger capacity and amenities on the Sankaty trips.
