All of a sudden the trees and lawns are much greener than a week ago; the overnight rain assisted in the transformation. Blossoms are everywhere dotting the landscape. It was even in the 70s last Friday.

This week at the Aquinnah Public Library, there will be story time at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. From 11 to 3 the kids’ craft will be paper tube bees.

In honor and in memory of our fallen heroes, the annual Memorial Day march to the sea will be on Friday, with bouquets of lilac to memorialize those who served our country. Chilmark School students will march to the end of the U.S. Coast Guard Station Menemsha dock with their bouquets.

Emily Arturu, a teacher in Malden, has arrived for the summer. She will be staying with her grandparents David and Clare Kane in Lobsterville.

Get well wishes to Wesley Cottle, who underwent surgery this week at Cape Cod Hospital. We’re anticipating his arrival home by now.

Antonio DiLorenzo has arrived from his winter home in the Dominican Republic for his work at the Martha’s Vineyard Shipyard again this summer. We’ll see his often as he’s spending his weekends in Aquinnah.

It was nice to catch up with Adam Gross, his sister Jill and her husband Scott after not seeing them for a few years. Adam is now a year-round resident.

All the best to USCG SN Savannah Hooe, who has served at Station Menemsha for less than a year. She is headed to Boatswain’s Mate “A” school in Virginia and will be closer to her family.

Corinna Majno and her husband Ken Kaufman and their dachshund Frankie have arrived for their summer sojourn. For the next six Saturdays, Corinna will have an open studio with her seaweed art and appetizers. Stop in between 4:30 and 6 p.m. on Saturdays. They are located on Mariner’s Way, follow the signs from 67 Lighthouse Road.

My sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Eileen Sullivan Mayhew, who passed away on May 21 at the age of 101. Matriarch of her large Mayhew family, she was a family friend for more than a half a century. Services are still being planned at this time.

Gordon Perry and Dona Mazza decided to retire and therefore ended their run at Dreamcatchers on the cliffs. Gordon is doing what he likes to do best, interior finish work and creating masterpieces with his craftsmanship in woodworking. For now, Dona is in charge of the restaurant at Bowl and Board. All the best to them in their next chapters of life.

Alexandra Taylor’s birthday bash entitled Kegs and Cakes is always so much fun, with her family and friends invited from across the Vineyard and beyond. ‘Til next year!

Jane Tenenbaum and her brother David Tenenbaum have been at their family home for the past week. David returned to his home in Madison, Wisc. on Tuesday. Jane will remain here for a little while longer.

John Thurgood is the new chef at the Chilmark Tavern. He was previously the sous chef but is known mostly for being an outrageously super angler.
