Two Island men are facing multiple charges after allegedly stealing prescription medication from vehicles and stealing a car, police said.

Mark (Markus) J. Premdas, 27, of Oak Bluffs, and Ricardo Marinho-Dasilva, 25, of Vineyard Haven, were arrested Monday by Oak Bluffs and Tisbury police officers, according to a press release.

Police said the two men allegedly broke into two parked vehicles on County Road in Oak Bluffs between the fire station and Shirley avenue. Prescription medication and other items were stolen from the vehicles, police said, and a 2000 Dodge Ram pickup truck was also stolen from the area.

The truck was found just after 3 a.m. Monday parked on Main street in Vineyard Haven. The vehicle was smoking from the front grille and appeared to have been in an accident, police said. As they approached the vehicle a man was allegedly seen exiting the vehicle and running from the scene.

Police said they observed the man throw prescription medication bottles, which they later determined to have been stolen from County Road.

The suspect was identified as Mr. Marinho-Dasilva, police said, and Mr. Premdas came to the Oak Bluffs police station later Monday and was arrested.

Mr. Marinho-Dasilva was arraigned in Edgartown district court Monday on two counts of breaking and entering in the nighttime to commit a felony, two counts of receiving stolen property, possessing a class E drug and resisting arrest. Bail was set at a total of $750 ($250 in each of three separate cases), which Mr. Marinho-Dasilva has posted, a court official said.

Mr. Premdas was scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday. Oak Bluffs police said he will be charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, two counts of larceny from a motor vehicle, two counts of breaking and entering in the night to commit a felony, and leaving the scene of a property damage accident, and other charges are possible.
