June is almost here and we are finally feeling the warm weather. I think you all know I like it cool but I too am ready for some warmer weather. I keep threatening to bring out the summer wear but it is like putting the snow shovel away; you don’t want to curse it.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Matthew D’Andrea, who celebrated May 21; Breaden Murphy, May 22; Cayden Bresett and Espen Desquenne, May 23; Anita Cabral and Ryan Murray, May 25; and to Anthony Pereira and Micah Simmons who celebrate their day May 26.

Happy retirement to Celeste Stickney who is retiring this week from dental hygiene after a 40-year career, with the past 16 years in practice with Dr. John Hartley. On the Island for 23 years, she worked at other dental offices too — Dr. Herman’s and Dr. McNulty’s.

This is the weekend some people hate, some love and some just take in stride. But no matter how you feel, it is coming and we will experience more people traffic and longer lines at the Stop & Shop.

I have seen people that have just arrived for the summer or just for the weekend and it is great catching up with them. But the season is upon us so let’s enjoy it.

This time of year the lilacs and lily of the valley are blooming. I can’t help but have flashbacks of marching down to Owen Park to throw the flowers off the dock on Memorial Day. My mother would go out and pick the flowers from our back yard and bring them in and wrap them in a wet paper towel, then aluminum foil. It amazes me on how one smell can take you back to a great moment in your life.

On this Memorial Day I wish you safe travels, happy beach days and hopefully a few barbecues. But while you are doing your holiday thing please take time to remember those who gave up their tomorrows so we could have ours.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
