It is a tradition that dates back 28 years, and one in which artists of many different media line up to participate, donating at least 40 per cent of any earnings. The event is the annual Friends of Family Planning Art Show, the organization’s major fundraiser each year.

The planning begins deep in winter with a call to artists. Last year over 90 local artists answered this call, contributing time and their work to the cause.

Bella Chimes of Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School designed this year’s poster for the art show.

The event takes place at the Agricultural Hall in West Tisbury from Friday through Sunday. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday.

The event is free, and so is the parking. All money therefore can go toward buying local art to both enhance the home and help the organization to continue helping both women and men. The services they offer range from clinical to educational and advocacy and include STD screenings, morning after pills, and a vasectomy reimbursement program.

On Thursday evening there is an opening night fundraiser from 6 to 8 p.m. Tickets are $50, available at the door.
