Our first litter of kittens have all gone home to their new families. Best of luck to all of them. Now litter number two has taken over the cat room. They will be entertaining everyone with their antics for the next few weeks until the can leave for their forever homes. Please stop in for a visit and to enjoy the show.

A stray male tuxedo arrived at the shelter last week. He was found near the Oak Bluffs cemetery and we’re calling him Rugby. He is so, so affectionate, with the loudest purr you’ve ever heard, and he purrs constantly. If you think he may be your missing cat please contact the shelter immediately, or come and meet this super sweet lap cat and see if he could be your new best friend.

Lastly, the shelter would like to remind all pet owners that we are now at the height of tick season, so make sure to stay current with your preventative measure of choice. Additionally, with the warmer weather now upon us please remember how quickly temperatures rise in a closed vehicle. Do not leave your pets in what can rapidly become a possibly deadly situation.

Shelter hours are Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday and Monday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.

Contributions are always gratefully accepted. Please make checks out to The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard; the mailing address is P.O. Box 1829, Edgartown, MA 02539.
