Great weekend weather, waking to 66 degrees has certainly been a treat. The rosa rugosa are in full bloom along the byways. A little fog covered the cliffs on Monday and Tuesday but the sun broke through.

Aquinnah Public Library will have story time on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with the kids’ craft from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. featuring egg carton lady bugs.

The last Neighborhood Convention meeting of the season will be held on Tuesday, June 7 at 11 a.m. at The Yard on Middle Road in Chilmark. Please bring your own lunch for the gathering to be held at the Chilmark Church following the presentation at The Yard.

Cliffhangers opened on Friday with raving reviews from across the Vineyard. Thank you to our family and friends for the overwhelming support throughout the first weekend which incidentally coincided with the opening of Manning’s 55 years ago this week half-way around Aquinnah Circle, opened by our father James W. Manning and Helen as well as our grandparents Captain Walter W. and Ada Manning — world renowned for lobster salads, fried clams, and homebaked pies. Many of our loyal customers and their families from the 1960s and ‘70s were customers over the weekend. Professor John Macey was the very first customer on Friday.

Sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Dennis P. Alley who passed away at Windemere on Monday. Denny was one of the last Oak Bluffs fire engineers of the 1970s and 80s along with the late Chief Nelson Amaral, Billy Norton, and Donald Billings. He will be greatly missed for his sense of humor at OBFCA events as well as his knowledge of firefighting.

A graveside memorial service for James Barrett will be held on Saturday, June 4 at 12:30 p.m. at the West Tisbury Cemetery.

Max Batzer and his son Travis were at their Lobsterville home over the weekend with their guest Corey. Cheryl Batzer is presently in Tuscany enjoying the sites and taking classes. We look forward to their arrival for their summer sojourn in a few weeks.

Condolences to the family and friends of Ray Dahill, who passed away on May 22 at Mass General Hospital. Ray was the delivery manager for Averill’s in the ‘60s, making several trips a week to Manning’s with dairy products. He will be missed.

The memorial service for David O. Douglas will be held on Sunday, June 5 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Agricultural Hall in West Tisbury. Please bring a dish to share as well as your memories.

Dr. Thomas Green and his friend Ann Marie were at his Aquinnah home over the weekend. Tom’s daughter Kristen Green recently graduated from Yale School of Nursing to become a certified nurse midwife and women’s health nurse practitioner. Congratulations Kristen!

Judge James Hubert and his wife Jody were at their Aquinnah home getting ready for their summer season.

Paul Henry Jeffers-Mayhew is home from his freshman year at U Mass Boston, where he is studying criminal justice/criminology and made the dean’s list. His friend Samantha Gitschier is staying with the Jeffers-Mayhew family for the summer. Paul Henry will be working as a traffic officer for the town of Edgartown, after spending the past four summers at Menemsha Galley.

Aloha to John Kozboski, a resident of UPIS LAND for the past four decades. Koz has packed up and moved to Oahu where he spent most of his winter vacations. We look forward to Koz visiting in the future as there was not enough time to plan a going away party for him.

Captain Rick Lee has arrived for the summer from his home in Florida. He reluctantly sold the M/V Notaposh and has a new boat on Menemsha Pond.

Sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Theodore G. Leslie Jr. who passed away on May 26 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston after being flown from Martha’s Vineyard Hospital on Monday. Ted was the beloved husband of Kristina Kestenbaum Leslie. He was a resident of Aquinnah for the past 16 years, retiring from the Vineyard Transit Authority. He was a veteran of the Viet Nam war, having served in the United States Army. A full obituary will follow. A memorial service will be held in September at his most favorite fishing spot.

Professor John Macey, his wife Amy, and their children Alexandra and Zach were at their Aquinnah home for the weekend, looking forward to returning for the summer season.

Corinna Majno and her husband Ken Kaufman enjoyed a successful open studio on Saturday. They will extend their hours to 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday for the next few weekends. Stop by to enjoy Corinna’s seaweed art while enjoying refreshments. Follow the signs on Lighthouse Road.

Dr. Richard Mulligan and his daughter Jessica were at their Lobsterville home over the weekend. Their guest was Joyce Nett.

Paul and Genie O’Donnell have arrived for their summer sojourn, already busy with numerous events and meetings.

Condolences to the family and friends of Barbara Polleys Parker who passed away in Agawam. Services were held for Barbara on May 25 in Edgartown.

Congratulations to Mark Seawell and his wife Beth Glaeser Seawell for receiving first place trophies in the mixed league bowling at Barn, Bowl and Bistro for the spring 2016 season.

Jerry Wiener, accompanied by Lenny Jason, recently attended a Southeastern Massachusetts Building Officials Association meeting in Taunton. Always informative topics for both to keep abreast of.
