It has been rather overcast for most of the week with a few days of sun. The surf along the south side has been roaring most of the week probably due to a tropical storm. The iris are standing tall and in full bloom, with the lilacs fading fast.

The Aquinnah Cultural Center opens for the season Saturday with house tours on June 15 through June 18 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and children.

As a follow up to my column of May 20, in observance of the 40th anniversary of the end of the Viet Nam War, others who served as residents of Aquinnah or are presently residents include Thomas Murphy Esq., Theodore Leslie, Jerry Wiener, Douglas Vanderhoop (who was the first Vineyarder wounded in Viet Nam as I recall), and Albert O. Fischer 3rd, who was the recipient of two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart.

Eric and Cheryl Berke and their family have arrived for the summer at their Lobsterville home.

Congratulations to Clara Corjulo who recently graduated with a degree in art from Salve Regina College in Newport. Clara is working at the Aquinnah Shop and Glassworks for the summer.

Welcome to Kenneth and Cori DiPietro of Boston, who are the new owners of two of the homes built in Cheepi’s field. They enjoyed a visit from their children Calla, Maris, and Nicholas over the holiday weekend. When you meet the DiPietro family, you will notice their well-behaved French bulldogs Tank and Violet. Cori anticipates spending the summer visiting the art galleries across the Vineyard.

Gary and Lisa Foster have arrived for the summer at their home in East Pasture.

Adam Gross enjoyed a recent visit from his son Ben, who is presently residing in New York and will be here often throughout the summer. Adam is awaiting the arrival of his daughter Claire from Los Angeles, as well as a visit from Lisa Gross.

Welcome to Eben Knox of Upton, nephew of Nancy Benoit and her husband Jim and cousin to Laina, who has arrived to spend the summer on the Vineyard.

There will be a celebration of Ted Leslie’s life on Saturday, June 11 at 3 p.m. at the VTA Building at the Airport Business Park.

Elizabeth Kistner Long returned to her home in Pennsylvania this past week, after being here for 10 days to assist her sister Theresa Kistner Manning and Paul in the opening of Cliffhangers. Liz was a great assistant during opening week. We will look forward to her return in a few weeks.

John Kozboski was honored with a gathering of friends on Monday afternoon at the Outermost Inn before his departure on Tuesday to Oahu.

Eric Malkin and his wife Barbara, aka Bobbi, arrived on Sunday for a two-week stay at the home of their aunt Hannah Malkin.

Ana Sargent has arrived home for the summer from Los Angeles where she works in the field of art in Pasadena.

Barry and Dottie Sullivan are enjoying a visit from their son Patrick, his wife Donna and their two sons, who will be here through June 12. They are all enjoying the late spring/early summer at their Aquinnah home.

Sage Surner has arrived from his home in New Hampshire to spend the summer in Aquinnah amid family and friends. He anticipates being part of the breakfast crew at the Aquinnah Shop.

Happy 22nd anniversary wishes to Edwin and Patricia Vanderhoop on June 11.
