Lenny’s Loop has re-congregated for the summer season. Arriving from Connecticut last week for a brief stay were Bill and Jan Stokes, here to work on their gardens and turn on their water. Arriving on Monday were Paul and Marge Howes of New Canaan, Conn., and our town.

Jim Hart arrived on May 17 with his dear wife, Trude. But I am sad to report that Trude Hart, who would have celebrated her 90th birthday on June 7, died here at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital shortly after the Harts’ arrival from Florida. Trude was a delight to all who knew her. Her son, Ronnie, and his wife Diane were able to get to the Island and see Trude before she died. Our condolences to Jim Hart.

Meanwhile, Laurie Marotta’s mother, Wanda Denton, is at her home in West Hartford having suffered some health set backs. So Wanda is not in her usual chair at our nightly gatherings. Of course, you know I cannot be there as of yet and my mom, Nonna, will be part of our group in memory.

The good news is that famed retired nurse, Chris Paffendorf, is wending her way to Leonard Circle now from her home in New Mexico. Mareda Gaither-Graves will be attending to her house on Lennie’s Loop and celebrating her birthday on-Island as well. Cheers to all and save me a seat.

Catch it if you can! Our Vineyard Haven Public Library is hosting its annual Island photography show but it ends on Saturday, June 11. There is always stellar work to see by a stellar group of your friends and neighbors. In addition, our library staff will be available to help you Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. to show you how to download free e-books. I need those lessons.

The library also reminds you that there is a mini-book sale on the third Saturday of every month, perfect for beach and summer reading. The sale is always from 2 to 4 p.m. in the program room. Proceeds benefit the children’s programs and other projects of the Friends of the Vineyard Haven Library.

The First Baptist Church suggests you make reservations now for their annual Father’s Day barbecue on Saturday, June 18. This is an annual chicken and rib banquet, a complete meal with beverage and dessert for a $15. Take-out is available. Call Carol at 508-693-1539 to reserve your tickets.

With great sadness I read of the passing of Oak Bluffs Fire Chief, Denny Alley. Another loss for our community. Condolences to Megan and the whole family. I also saw that an on-Island memorial was held for dear Kendra Frakes who died last spring. Kendra was a buddy, a writer, a friend to all, and she had a sly sense of humor. Kendra worked at the Gazette for years and was often the first and last person I dealt with on deadline day. Condolences to all her family and her dear, dear friends.

I would like to thank you for your patience with me as I have been through some very tough times. You know I buried my best girl, Teri Lynn Praskach, in early March. My mom was buried on May 18, her 99th birthday. I am moving very slowly right now but anxious to return and see you all.

The birthday bandwagon pulls along Crystal Baker, Josh Robinson-White, Ruth Stiller, Grace Schmidt and Keosha Walker on June 10; June 11 belongs to Mareda Gaither-Graves, John Crews and Suzanne Walker; June 12 is for Emanuelly Nascimento; June 13 is a party for Holly Towles, Patsy Wheeler and Elise Gardella; June 14 shines on Cheryl Funk and Mike Mayrand; June 15 honors Brooksley Crisman; and on June 16 Jason Mead and Joanne Moncada take the cake.

Many happy returns.
