The Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank foundation has donated $4,500 to Martha’s Vineyard Community Services to fund a telemedicine grant for the Island Counseling Center.

The donation was made in honor of Cape Cod Five’s grand opening of its first full-service branch on the Vineyard, on State Road in Vineyard Haven, according to a press release.

Telemedicine allows for remote diagnosis and treatment of patients, filling a growing unmet need on the Island for psychiatric and medication management services.

“The goal of telemedicine for MVCS’ Island Counseling Center is to expand our psychiatric service capacity to reduce wait times for medication management,” MVCS executive director Julie Fay said in a press release.

The donation will cover the cost of preparing an office at the Island Counseling Center and outfitting it with technology required for meetings with off-site psychiatrists.
