The shelter has one new arrival this week. Precious is a dilute calico cat who is only four years young. She is an indoor cat who came from a quiet home where she lived with an elderly woman. Since she is new to the shelter she is still being assessed on whether or not she likes children and dogs. Please stop in and meet her if you are looking for a young cat.

The other news of the week is that our lovely Russian Blue cat, Lola, has found her forever home. Everyone here is delighted for her.

Our wonderful Native American shepherd dog, Kyra, is coming along nicely with her socialization. She is getting some gentle training, and with her superior intelligence is progressing rapidly. She is a large girl and very beautiful, about 60 pounds give or take. Sweet as can be, yet still on the timid side. Please come meet this lovely lady and see if there’s a place for her in your heart.

Year-old calico mama, Colleen, is still being socialized but starting to warm up to people. Her two kittens Pounce, the orange boy, and Tennessee, the tuxedo boy, are about eight weeks and are ready to go to their new homes this week. Our other two kittens, Bonnie and Clyde, will also be going to their forever homes this week.

Don’t forget that the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard’s annual Garden Party is this coming Monday, June 27 from 5 to 7:30 p.m., rain or shine. There will be silent, live, and ticket auctions. Please contact the shelter at manager@animalshelterofmv.org for more information or to purchase tickets. Parking will be at the Edgartown School and guests will be taken by trolley to the party. Now that summer is here the shelter would like to remind all pet owners how quickly temperatures rise in a closed vehicle. Please do not leave your pets in what can rapidly become a deadly situation.

Shelter hours are Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday and Monday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.

Contributions are always gratefully accepted; the shelter is funded solely by donations. Please make checks out to The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard; the mailing address is P.O. Box 1829, Edgartown, MA 02539 or visit animalshelterofmv.org.
