Sunny days for most of the month of June. Although a little bit of rain would be appreciated at this time, especially by the farmers and the gardeners. Everything is in full bloom.

A reminder that the Old South Road Neighborhood Association will host the 13th annual Fourth of July children’s parade. Festivities start with face painting at the Goldfield-Mannion home at 5 Old South Road at 10 a.m. Please park on Moshup Trail. Floats, cars, and bikes should start lining up at the top of the hill at 10 a.m. and the parade starts at 11 a.m. sharp at the top of Old South Road. Donations of flags, toys, and decorations are encouraged, and please invite all neighbors and friends.

Henry and Betty Costable are at their Aquinnah home for a brief stay as they will be attending the weddings over the summer of two of their granddaughters, who will be happily spending their honeymoons on the Vineyard.

Congratulations to Aquinnah Wampanoag tribal member Mariah Duarte, daughter of Michelle Malcouronne Duarte and Richard Duarte of Aquinnah, upon her graduation from Paul Mitchell, The School in Cranston, R.I., where she studied cosmetology. Mariah has already landed a job at Maggie’s Salon in Vineyard Haven.

Jack Fruchtman will present Let’s Talk About the Constitution on July 7 at 5:30 p.m. at the Grange Hall in West Tisbury. He is a professor of political science at Towson University and director of the program in law and American civilization. There will be a book talk and signing in conjunction with the Martha’s Vineyard Museum.

George and Christine Katilus and their son George have arrived for the summer and await the arrival of son Colin. George Sr. will attend the graduation ceremony of Colin Katilus on June 30 at the U.S. Coast Guard Training Center in Cape May, N.J. George Jr. recently graduated from Vero Beach High School, where he was a member of the swim team, and will be headed to Tufts University following his work at Vineyard Vines in Edgartown for the summer. While Christine keeps it all together, she still finds time to pinch hit and work at Cliffhangers.

John and Amy Macey and their son Zach welcomed nephew/cousin Jack on Tuesday. Jack will be spending most of the summer with the Maceys.

Belated happy birthday wishes to Preston Williams, who observed a milestone with a grand family gathering. MVRHS classmate Frank Fenner observed a milestone on June 23 and Sage Surner partied on June 24.

Happy birthday wishes this week to Robbie Manning on July 3 as he celebrates his 10th birthday. My dear friend Jane Anderson, a friend of 60 years from our grammar school days, will observe a milestone on July 4. Marianne Thomas will celebrate on July 4 and shares the day with Michael Norkus and Mae Alice Baird, who will be 12. Wiet Bacheller will observe her special day on July 6. Granddaughter Marianne Spiller will celebrate on July 7, sharing the day with Steve Yaffe and Harold Wolozin. Gary Coates will party on July 8.
