Jim Thomas and his Spirituals Choir return to Union Chapel on Saturday, July 16, at 7:30 p.m. Also featured will be organist Lavert Stuart. Tickets are $15 and are available at the door. Children under 12 get in free.

The program is called Social Justice from Africa to the Underground Railroad and features spirituals about victory over oppression and deliverance from bondage, such as Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho and Didn’t My Lord Deliver Daniel?

Mr. Thomas founded and directs the U.S. Slave Song Project, which is dedicated to educating the public about the slave songs. He is a seasonal resident of the Vineyard, and an alumnus of the Fisk Jubilee Singers, the Robert Shaw Chorale and the Paul Hill Chorale.
