The weekend weather was far from summerlike, in fact it felt like mid-April. A lot of backyard barbecuing was held all around town and it was wonderful. Business people report that there have been a lot of people around and the traffic nearly impossible at times, it has definitely been busier than last year.

Kendall Gifford Miller, his wife Carla, and children Daniel and Carl, of Newark, Ohio arrived last weekend for a vacation. They have been cleaning the yard and planting daylilies as he continues to improve the property. They plan to return home on Sunday.

Grandchildren Robbie, Henry, Eddie, and Mark and their parents left for their home in East Taunton on Tuesday. They all had a swell time: beaches, playgrounds, day camp, riding the bus and wearing grandma and grandpa out. They plan to return in August.

Carol Weiss, of Piermont N.Y., is coming up for her annual visit to the Island this weekend to see her grandsons Tanner and Hunter at their place on Skiffs Lane. She warns the Vineyard Haven shops to prepare for her arrival.

Paul Karasik announced that he will not be back with the Martha’s Vineyard Public Charter School as their development director this fall. But he does plan to continue to be involved with them on a scaled-back level.

Sheila M. Fane, of West Tisbury and Hartsdale, N.Y., has been exhibiting her artwork in a one-person show at the Old Sculpin Gallery in Edgartown. The art is original prints and handmade paper of Vineyard landscape scenes plus some Fourth of July Americana work in denim. She will have a selection of work at the Old Sculpin throughout the summer and will have another one-person show August 20 through 26.

Jack Ryan, over at the post office (he is the clerk who often reminds his customers to remember the good times) is having a show at Art Space from 5 to 7 p.m. on July 23. His old friend Mike Mok will supply live music for your enjoyment.

On Sunday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. the library presents the seventh annual Troubadour and Trobairitz production of poems, songs and music from 12th and 13th century Southern France. The production brings together Island poets, actors, professional singers and musicians in a performance of poems and songs selected from 2,000 poems by 400 troubadours and a lesser number by the trobairitz, the women troubadours. Poems are read then sung to the accompaniment of music played on medieval instruments. Free and open to the public.
