It’s been a busy week at the shelter with lots of new arrivals. Most of them are cats in the orange family. First up is a beautiful long haired orange and white male cat we’ve named Mason. He was found as a stray in Edgartown in the vicinity of Planting Field Way. He is approximately four years old and very sweet. Please contact the shelter immediately if you think he may be your missing pet.

Next up are eight-year-old orange and white boy Dulce and his four-year-old buff and white housemate Lefty. These are both large boys and are as sweet and affectionate as could be. Either would be a great addition to any family. Our other new arrival is another buff boy named Chappy. He too is quite large. Chappy is still being assessed as to his temperament.

Lastly, we have three kittens that are being socialized in preparation for going to their forever homes. There are two tortoiseshell females, Ru and Ree, who are approximately five to six weeks old. One of which is a bobtail. Hanging out with the girls is a 10-week-old orange and white male kitten, Memphis.

A new dog became available this past week. Ru is a six-year-old male foxhound who is good with both children and dogs. He will be staying with his family until a new home can be found so please contact the shelter if you would like to set up a meeting to see if he could be your new companion.

Our long haired tortoiseshell cat, Precious, is coming out of her shell more and more. She is a good-sized girl, seven years of age. Please come meet her and see if she could be the cat of your dreams, or even just visit and help with her ongoing socialization. Our year-old calico mama, Colleen, is still being socialized and is warming up to people more and more. She has been spayed and is now ready for adoption. Colleen would make an excellent barn cat.

Kyra, our stunning three-year-old Native American shepherd dog, is getting more and more confident and is now ready for adoption. Gentle training will need to be continued but she is extremely intelligent and catches on quickly. Kyra is a large girl and very beautiful, about 50 to 60 pounds. Sweet as can be, yet may always be on the timid side, which is a characteristic of her breed. She would do best in a home with a large fenced yard. Please come meet this lovely girl and see if there’s a place for her in your heart. She needs a gentle, loving home with consistency.

Another dog available for adoption is Tempe. She is a seven-year-old black Labrador retriever/hound mix, good with both children and cats. Please contact the shelter if you would like to meet her so a meeting can be arranged. She will be staying with her family until a new home can be found.

Now that summer is here the shelter would like to remind all pet owners how quickly temperatures rise in a closed vehicle. Please do not leave your pets in what can rapidly become a deadly situation. Additionally, please be mindful of how hot the asphalt and pavement can be on delicate paws in the summer heat.

Shelter hours are Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday and Monday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.
