Sunny and warm to say the least. The weather has certainly been cooperating for July visitors to enjoy the beaches, boating, golf, tennis, and the multitude of parties. We will look forward to more of the same for August.

Aquinnah residents still have time to sign their children and/or grandchildren up for the summer programs offered by the town. Sailing is with Charlie Shipway on Monday and Thursday, and swimming lessons are still at the pool of Mrs. Hannah Malkin on Tuesday and Thursday. Please stop by the town hall and speak with Aquinnah town clerk Carolyn Feltz.

Have you noticed the new boat in town? Aquinnah fire chief Simon Bollin and his crew have been diligent in finding firefighting equipment. The boat Beas was acquired through the federal excess property system, through the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation. It was a decommissioned U.S. Coast Guard boat. At the present time, it needs a motor and electronics, which will cost about $50,000 dollars. The Aquinnah Fire Department will raise the money so there is no out of pocket cost to the town. The boat fire a month ago demonstrated a problem with the fire department not having a boat, and thus they started looking around and this was available and they scooped it up. The boat cost the United States Coast Guard $228,000 brand new in 2010 so it was quite a good deal, as it was free. If you are interested in sending a donation for the purchase of necessary equipment, please stop by the Aquinnah Fire Department on Sunday mornings at 10 a.m. or mail your donation to Aquinnah Fire Department, 65 State Road, Aquinnah, MA 02535.
