The shelter has a new dog up for adoption this week. Her name is Rosie and she is a young poodle/beagle mix, 11 years young. Her coloring is tan and brown and she has the poodle hair rather than fur, so is hypoallergenic and doesn’t shed. She is a very sweet girl, passed her assessment with flying colors, and would make a fabulous addition to any family. She only wants to give you her love.
The beautiful long-haired orange and white stray male cat we’ve named Mason is still hoping his family will come and find him. He was found in Edgartown in the vicinity of Planting Field Way. He is approximately four years old and very, very sweet. Please contact the shelter immediately if you think he may be your missing pet, or if you are interested in adding him to your family.
Next up are eight-year-old orange and white boy Dulce and his four-year-old buff and white housemate Lefty. These are both large boys and sweet and affectionate as could be. Either would be a great addition to any family. Also in the cat room is Cody, a three-year-old black and gray male tabby. This great cat would be a super addition to any family. Our other orange resident is another good sized boy named Chappy. Chappy is grieving the loss of his owner so it has been difficult to assess his temperament. We’re hoping he comes out of his shell soon.
Our long-haired tortoiseshell cat, Precious, is coming out of her shell more and more. She is a good-sized girl, seven years old. Please come meet her and see if she could be the cat of your dreams, or even just visit and help with her socialization. Year-old calico mama, Colleen, is still being socialized and is warming up to people more and more. She has been spayed and is now ready for adoption. Colleen would make an excellent barn cat.
The three kittens that arrived last week are being socialized in preparation for going to their forever homes. There are two tortoiseshell females, Ru and Tinkerbell, who are approximately six to seven weeks old. Ru is a bobtail for you bobtail lovers out there. Keeping company with the girls is 11-week-old orange and white male kitten Memphis. Please stop by to visit these three and help with their socialization.
On the dog front is Ru, a six-year-old male foxhound who is good with children and dogs. He will be staying with his family until a new home can be found. Another dog available for adoption is Tempe. She is a seven-year-old black Labrador retriever/hound mix, good with children and cats. She will also be staying with her family until a new home can be found. Please contact the shelter if you would like to meet either of these dogs so a meeting can be arranged.
Kyra, our amazing three-year-old Native American shepherd dog, is getting more and more confident and is ready for adoption. Gentle training will need to be continued but she is extremely intelligent and catches on quickly. Kyra is a large girl and very beautiful, about 50 to 60 pounds. Sweet as can be, yet may always be on the timid side, which is a characteristic of her breed. She would do best in a home with a large, fenced yard. Please come meet this lovely girl and see if there’s a place for her in your heart. She needs a gentle, loving home with consistency.
Now that summer is here the shelter would like to remind all pet owners how quickly temperatures rise in a closed vehicle. Please do not leave your pets in what can rapidly become a deadly situation. Additionally, please remember how hot the asphalt and pavement can be on delicate paws in the summer heat.
Shelter hours are Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday and Monday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662. Contributions are always gratefully accepted; the shelter is funded solely by donations.
