Do you have your ticket for the Possible Dreams Auction at Winnetu this Sunday? Don’t forget! This is the most exciting social event of the year on Martha’s Vineyard, providing fun for you and funds for our extensive community services. You just might see me there.

Leonard Circle welcomed Ovita Williams to the Howes House of Paul, Marge, and daughter Julia Gomez Blanco. Ovita lives in Brooklyn and is the associate director of field education at the Columbia University School of Social Work. Ms. Williams has been to the Island before for visits and the christenings of Aidan and Olivia, Julia’s two kids. This is her first stay at the Howes House. Everyone had a fabulous and all too short visit.

While we miss the Shaw Cramer Gallery on our Main street, Nancy Shaw Cramer is setting out a lovely afternoon for you by the pond at her abode in West Tisbury on Saturday July 30 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Relax on the porch at 38 Looks Pond Way with your friends and guests. Choose from a wide selection of one of a kind jewelry, scarves, coats, jackets and tunics. Nancy has a great eye for art, even in the wearable art category. Sounds like a beautiful afternoon.

Michael and Eleanor Hebert of Aquinnah are busy entertaining their twin granddaughters from Alaska who made the long trip by themselves. Jade and Maya Araujo, the 14-year-old daughters of Todd and Jaeleen Araujo, are bonding with cousins and friends and hitting the beach as frequently as possible. It is a pleasure for the aging gracefully Eleanor and Mike to have the assistance of grandson Kane, now driving and a truck owner, to chauffeur the girls to their beach appointments and social events. The girls dad, Todd Araujo, will be visiting in a few weeks with son Antone who is attending a football camp. Todd is coaching. You all remember Todd’s great football skills for us at MVRHS? They helped him get his scholarship to Holy Cross. He passed his workout shirt to my son, Chris Clark. Still have it. I believe the number was 32? Chris used it faithfully in all his practices for our high school team, the Vineyarders.

You are going to need a change of tune after the RNC and DNC conventions. Fan Ogilvie and Arnie Reisman will read from their new books of poetry at Featherstone on Tuesday, August 2 at 7 p.m. The event is free and I can guarantee it will be more sedate, more fun, and not at all worrisome like what passes for politics in America today. I’ll see you there.

Nancy Gardella, the brunette and red-head, not the blond Chamber of Commerce Nancy Gardella, spent a quick visit at Bryn Mawr last week. My nephew Jonathan of Fort Myers, Fla., attended one week of Boy Scout camp after his classes ended in May. Then one week of music camp at Indiana University. Nancy was entranced with Bloomington and all the helpful people teaching Jon more on his way to a music career. Jonathan plays violin, viola, piano, cello, guitar and harp. The chair he holds in the Southwest Florida Childrens Symphony is in viola. A very hard-working and talented nephew, he makes me so proud.

The music camp at Bryn Mawr is run by the Philadelphia orchestra. Jonathan is taking a jazz elective and does want to have a rock band someday. He wants to live in the Times Square area with his favorite Aunt Nancy and her two adorable dogs and play at Carnegie Hall at night. I am looking forward to it.

Very wild storms at the beginning of the week, eh? Even wilder parking. If you use the internet do check out the Bad Parking on Martha’s Vineyard thread. It is hilarious.

The birthday bandwagon pulls along Jonathan Alexander Gardella and Diane Hartmann on Saturday, July 30; July 31 is shared by Gale Grain Monk and Tony Radoszewski; August 1 shines on Gisele Nascimento and Kelsey Anne Hunter; August 2 is claimed by Sam Martin and Seniel Seward Hannigan; August 3 is a party for this reporter, Will Sherman, Lucas Brunelle, Tom Colligan, Sr., Greg Cimeno and twins Sharon Cooghan and Patty Roddy; and on August 4 Elaine Klein, Barack Obama, and Tony Friedman take the cake. Many happy returns.
