Seven Martha’s Vineyard residents will participate in this year’s Pan-Mass Challenge, a annual fundraiser for adult and pediatric cancer care and research.

Eric Berke of Aquinnah, Alan Rappaport, Gary Foster, and Ron Rappaport of Chilmark, Scott Holmes of Oak Bluffs and Jim Reynolds and John Schilling of Vineyard Haven have been training to join more than 6,500 cyclists who will crisscross Massachusetts for a cause on August 6 and 7. Participants can choose from 12 routes of varying mileage.

Cyclists raise money from sponsors, and since 1980 the Pan-Mass Challenge has raised more than half a billion dollars for adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through the Jimmy Fund. This year’s fundraising goal is $46 million.
