Park Corner Bistro in Oak Bluffs was damaged early Monday when a driver accidentally drove into the building, according to police.

Oak Bluffs police Sgt. Michael Marchand said a 91-year-old driver was pulling into a parking space at about 8:30 a.m. Monday when he apparently hit the accelerator instead of the brake and drove into a Buick sedan into the side of the restaurant.

The driver, whose name is not yet being released and who is not a full-time Vineyard resident, was not injured, Sergeant Marchand said. He was given a civil motor vehicle infraction for marked lanes violation.

The restaurant sustained quite a bit of structural damage on the side facing Kennebec avenue, Sergeant Marchand said, and he said he thought it would likely be closed for awhile.

Representatives from Park Corner could not be immediately reached.

“Needless to say, we will be closed for dinner tonight,” the restaurant's Facebook page said Monday afternoon, along with pictures of the damage. The restaurant said they would keep patrons posted on when they will open again, and thanked everyone for their well wishes.
