Two tuxedo kittens just arrived at the shelter. One is a female, approximately 12 weeks old, a big purrer and very friendly. We’re calling her Dee Dee and she has perfect tuxedo markings. The other is an eight-week-old male named JJ. He’s a real butterball and couldn’t be more playful or entertaining. He’s also polydactyl, or double pawed.

In the cat room, one-year-old tabby and white male Will Feral has come out of his shell and joined our other residents, all males: eight-year-old, orange and white Dulce; his four-year-old buff and white housemate Lefty; and three-year-old black and gray tabby Cody. They are all sweet and affectionate and would be great additions to any home.

We also have two females in the cat room waiting for someone to give them forever homes. Colleen is a petite. affectionate year-old calico. She has beautiful black lined eyes, just like Cleopatra. Our long-haired tortoiseshell girl, seven-year-old Precious, is coming out of her shell. Our other orange resident is Chappy, who is grieving the loss of his owner so it has been difficult to assess his temperament. He is slowly coming out of his shell and has begun to enjoy petting. Tortoiseshell kittens, Ru and Tinkerbell, both females about eight or nine weeks old, are waiting for someone to fall in love with them. Ru is a bobtail. Please stop by to visit and help with their on-going socialization and, maybe, fall in love.

Our amazing three-year-old Native American shepherd dog, Kyra, is still waiting for that special person or family to come and find her. Gentle training will need to be continued but she is extremely intelligent and catches on quickly. She needs a gentle, loving home with consistency and would do best with a large fenced yard. If you meet her you will fall in love.

Ru, the six-year-old male foxhound who is good with both children and dogs, is still looking for his new home. Another dog available for adoption is Tempe, a seven-year-old black Labrador Retriever/hound mix, is good with both children and cats. These dogs will be staying with their families until new homes can be found, and both would be great companions. Please contact the shelter to meet either of these dogs.

The shelter would like to remind all pet owners how quickly temperatures rise in a closed vehicle. Please do not leave your pets in what can rapidly become a deadly situation. And please be mindful of how hot asphalt and pavement can be on delicate paws.

Shelter hours are Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday and Monday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.
