Paper Lanterns, a documentary about 12 American POWs killed in Hiroshima in August 1945, screens at the Film Center in Vineyard Haven on Tuesday, August 23. The film tells the story about how the fact that Americans were killed at Hiroshima along with hundreds of thousands of Japanese citizens was kept secret by the U.S. military. The film also features Shigeaki Mori, a Hiroshima bomb victim who survived, and has devoted much of his life to preserving the legacy of the 12 slain American POWs, and to creating monuments to their memory.

The film screens at 7:30 p.m.
