What better way to celebrate peak summer on the Vineyard than a dazzling show of lights above Nantucket Sound.

The annual Oak Bluffs fireworks show takes place Friday, August 19. The annual display is hosted by the Oak Bluffs Firemen’s Association, with sponsorship by Summercamp, the new hotel that was formerly the Wesley.

The evening starts out with a performance by the Vineyard Haven Band at the bandstand in Ocean Park 8 p.m.

The fireworks will start fill the sky with color around 9 p.m.

Arrive early, bring a picnic, and plan travel accordingly: the Steamship Authority will be diverting ferry trips between Woods Hole and Oak Bluffs to Vineyard Haven from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday.

All of Ocean avenue will be closed to traffic starting at 3 p.m. on Friday, and Seaview avenue from Lake avenue to Samoset avenue will be closed to traffic at 4 p.m.
