What can I say? The weather so far this week has been great. No humidity, cool breeze and great temperatures during the day. So far so good as we say in New England. Let’s see what tomorrow brings.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Anthony Chick and Harley Snowden who celebrated their day August 22; Joseph Serpa, August 24; Daniel Luna, Penelope Thornton, August 25; and to Cali Grow who celebrates his day Friday August 26.

Peter R. Boak is a widely known Vineyarder — a school teacher, director of the Island Community Chorus, winner of this year’s Inspiration Award, but also the minister of music, the choir director and organist for the Federated Church. He has held these positions at the Federated for 20 years.

To recognize this significant accomplishment, the music committee and the Federated Church Choir will be sponsoring a celebration of the (first) 20 years of Peter Boak’s Music Ministry on Sunday, Sept. 4, as part of the worship service, followed by a luncheon reception at the Mayhew Parsonage, immediately following the service. Members of the choir will provide refreshments.

In order for everyone to express their thanks and appreciation to Peter personally, please bring (or send to the church office) a short note. There will be a collection basket in the Meetinghouse, the parish house and the parsonage. We will see that he gets them.

This is truly an occasion to celebrate and the church, and the choir is most grateful to have spent the past 20 years making, presenting and enjoying music under the direction of Peter R. Boak, and in his company!

The fourth annual Pennywise Path Road Race sponsored by the Friends of the Edgartown Public Library will be Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 5. You can pick-up registration forms at the Edgartown Library, or register online at edgartownlibrary.org. Proceeds from the event go to the Friends of the Edgartown Library to support library programs.

I can’t believe that it is a week away from Labor Day. Soon my road will be busy with kids and teachers getting ready for the new year. The buses will be getting serviced and shined, and moms and dads will be rearranging schedules to drop the kids off or pick up. It seems like a fast summer now that September is coming.

But now we can maybe enjoy what is coming. The sky will be that wonderful blue, the beaches filled with fishermen, all the wedding planners will be finalizing the weddings they have been working on, and the lines at the Stop & Shop should be a little shorter.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
