The Chappy Community Center potlucks will begin again on Wednesday, Sept. 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. Please bring a dish for six. Hosts are needed for all of the upcoming potlucks. Call Lynn at 508-627-8222 or email chappycc@verizon.net to sign up.

Potlucks are held throughout the fall, winter and spring on the first and third Wednesdays of the month. Hosting is actually fun. You provide the appetizers, make sure salt and pepper shakers are on the tables, etc. A few folks always stay to help with the clean-up. This is a good opportunity to add “works well with others” to your resume!

There are still activities scheduled at the CCC continuing into September. Tai chi, yoga and pilates are all on the calendar. Check the chalkboard on the CCC porch or the online calendar for times and days.

Foreign film night also continues at the CCC on Sept. 2 at 7 p.m. with the New Zealand film Whale Rider.

Coming up this Saturday, Sept. 3 at 5 p.m. at the CCC we welcome back Chappy’s own Ben Yarmolinsky to perform a program of original works from Songs & Solos. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted.

Thanks to everyone for your support for a great summer at the CCC. It is never too early to sign up to volunteer for next year’s events.

The Chappy Store is open for business daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Labor Day, Sept. 5. After that the store will be open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Your patronage will help to keep the store running for more weekends.

The Slip Away farm stand is still open Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Lots of flowers and fresh veggies including hot and sweet peppers, holy basil, cherry tomatoes, beets, carrots, baby greens, cabbage, green beans, chard and kale for sale along with many other delectables. They also have coffee beans, yogurt, meats and other great stuff from the refrigerator.

How would you like to get in on a group photo at Slip Away Farm? The Preservation Trust will take a photo of the old Chappy schoolhouse, which serves as the Slip Away farm stand, for an ad campaign to raise public awareness about the Trust’s mission. They would like to have a group of neighbors and customers at the stand for the photograph. The photo shoot will be at 1:30 p.m. this coming Friday at the farm stand.

The ad campaign will feature a different group of people standing in front of various Trust landmarks with the tag line “We are The Preservation Trust.” The ads will include a brief testimonial about the importance of that building to that group and a brief description of the Trust’s organization. The ads will conclude with a thank you to members, an invitation to visit Trust properties and an invitation to join the Trust.

The Trust’s buildings are diverse. The Chappy schoolhouse, the Old Sculpin Gallery and the Whaling Church are just a few that are well know to Chappy folks as functioning structures rather than just museum pieces.

In the fall of 2008 we got the idea for a group photo on the ferries. We put up a sign asking for 100 Chappaquiddickers to pose at noon on Columbus Day and more than 150 people showed up. Let’s see what we can do this time!
